After watching "Gia" I asked my brother-in-law what he knew about her--his family is in Philly, and his last name is Carangi.
He told me she is(was) his cousin, and the family doesn't talk about her--they were more embarassed by her than anything. They never really accepted/admitted her success; didn't really care about her 'bi-sexuality'; alcohol and drug addiction are a family trait; her family thought she was mentally ill.
I always thought this info made her life all the more tragic.
